RRS re-arrests suspected vandal for same offence

Barely 18 days after gaining freedom from the detention of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti in Lagos, Godwin Nwankwo, 23, was yesterday re-arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly vandalizing bridge railings and crash barriers on Ijora Bridge, same offence he committed about three months ago. Court grants ex-Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosun N500million bail

Former Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu, who is accused of being involved in a N21 billion fraud while he was office, was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos today and was granted N500 million bail. Amosu was arraigned alongside Jacob Adigun, an Air Vice Marshal, and Gbadebo Olugbenga, an Air Commodore on a 26-count of stealing about N50 billion.

They pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The judge afterwards granted them bail in the sum of N500 million each.

Resident doctors in teaching hospitals suspend strike

In a circular released yesterday, Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, ordered the replacement of all striking resident doctors in the various government teaching hospitals. According to the minister, the striking doctors failed to attend their training programs despite ongoing negotiations and so their vacancies should be filled up with other doctors that have before now sent in their applications.

Herdsmen kill six in Benue community

An attack by herdsmen on residents of Gabo village in Nengev and Turan Councils wards of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday June 17th, has left six persons dead with several others injured.

Hungarian undertakers stage grave-digging championship

Undertakers in Hungary have found a way to infuse some fun into their morbid profession. They now have a grave-digging championship. 18 two-man teams battle to dig a precise, regulation-size grave as quickly as possible.

“I don’t think this is morbid,” the Hungarian Undertakers’ Association’s deputy chairman, Zoltan Juracsik, said to journalists at the national grave-digging contest at the wooded cemetery in Debrecen, Hungary’s biggest city after Budapest. 

This is a profession, and the colleagues who toil in competition today are proud and deserve our respect,” he said.
