Catalan parliament declares independence from Spain



Catalan lawmakers voted Friday to declare independence from Spain, as Madrid vowed in turn to "restore legality" and quash the region's secessionist bid.
With thousands of pro-independence activists gathered outside, the regional parliament in Barcelona passed a resolution to "declare Catalonia an independent state in the form of a republic".

Police nab 15 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers






The police on Friday in Rijani, Kaduna State, paraded 15 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers who were in possession of fire arms.
The Force Spokesman, CSP. Jimoh Moshood, paraded the suspects before newsmen.
Moshood said that the first group of the suspects comprised six persons who killed a lawyer, Mr Sheriiff Yazid, and kidnapped his wife along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

Barrister Adebisi Adegbuyi, the postmaster general / CEO of NIPOST, speaking during a retreat organized to prepare staff and stakeholders for the expected changes stated that the Strategic Roadmap tagged ‘NIPOST Vision 2020’ was a product of several months of intensive work, which started at Ogere retreat held on May 22, 2017.

NCC moves to checkmate SIM Swap fraud


Ms Helen Obi, Head of Zonal Operations, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Friday said that the commission has put in place a regulation to checkmate SIM Swap fraud.



Obi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.
A SIM is a smart card inside a mobile phone, carrying identification number unique to the owner.
While SIM Swap is the process of replacing your existing SIM with a new SIM and moving your existing number, data etc. to a new SIM.

Guinness Nigeria grows revenue by 30% in 2017 first quarter


Guinness Nigeria Plc has posted 30 per cent growth in revenue for the first quarter ended Sept. 30, 2017, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports.



The company in a result declared on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Friday, said that the revenue stood at N29.9 billion compared to N23.02 billion achieved in the comparative period of 2016.
The company’s gross profit during the period under review grew by 24 per cent as against pre-tax loss profit of N2.12 billion recorded in the comparative period of 2016.

NDLEA destroys 14,168kg of illicit drugs


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Command in Oyo State, on Friday, disclosed that it had destroyed over 14,168 kilogrammes of assorted forfeited illicit drugs seized within the state.


The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Mutiat Okuwobi, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, that the drugs were worth N100 million.

Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Friday in Akure flagged off the distribution of 2.9 million long lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets to residents of the state.
Akeredolu, who was represented by Dr Jibayo Oyewole, the Special Adviser on Health Matters to the governor, noted that malaria still remained a major public health problem in Nigeria despite preventable measures.

Buhari apologises as security operatives deny lawmakers access to Aso Rock




President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday apologised to members of the National Assembly who were denied access to the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Trouble began when the principal officers of the National Assembly who were scheduled to attend a dinner at the Presidential Banquet Hall on the invitation of President Buhari were denied access to the venue by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) mounting the pilot gate leading to the villa.
