Senate Committee clears embattled Sokoto ministerial nominee

The Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges on Monday absolved Sokoto Ministerial nominee, Aisha Abubakar of allegation of incompetence raised against her and presented at plenary last Thursday by Senator Ibrahim Gobir.
The Committee which began hearing today observed that the Petition was addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and not the President of the Senate as is the guiding rule of the Senate that has powers of investigation.

Woman ties 9yr old boy to pole, beats and attempts to strangle him

A South African woman was arrested last week after a video emerged of her physically assaulting a 9-year-old boy. In the video footage, the woman is seen tying the boy to a pole before beating him with stick while screaming at him for allegedly stealing a cellphone. The KwaZulu-Natal woman who is due to appear in court soon is also seen threatening a resident who tries to stop the assault. See the pic

Domestic violence: Governor Ambode urges residents to speak out

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Monday urged residents to speak out against domestic violence and assist government’s efforts to reduce the menace in the society.
Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, made the call at a Symposium on Gender Based Violence organised by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

Soldiers foil suicide attack at Maimalari barracks in Borno

A suspected female Boko Haram suicide bomber was today shot dead by Nigerian soldiers after she attempted to forcefully enter into Maimalari army barracks in Maiduguri, Borno state with an explosive concealed in her handbag.

According to reports, a woman was making her way towards the entrance of the barracks when she was asked to stop by soldiers for a thorough search.

Former Minister of Education Olaiya Oni dies 72

A former minister of education Olaiya Oni has died at the age of 72. He died today at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, Ondo state after an undisclosed ailment. Family sources say his body has been deposited at the morgue while preparation for his burial is ongoing. May his soul rest in peace Amen

A man stopped to fill up his petrol tank last week and got the surprise of his life when a huge snake reared its head from behind the pump. The snake had disguised itself under the petrol pump.

The man, Adzy Heist said he was driving by the Sydney Airport when he stopped to refuel at a Shell petrol station and noticed a large carpet snake with a head the size of his fist trying to blend in with the long black hose of the pump. "I couldn't believe it" he said! See more photos
