Aniefiok Udo was spared jail term after admitting to a
string of sexual assaults on the London Tube. He pleaded guilty to three counts
of sexual assault on December 14. He was handed a 16-week suspended sentence and banned
for five years from approaching any woman he does not know while using
public transport.

Senate President Bukola Saraki meets with the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists
Nigeria Senate President Bukola Saraki on Monday, December 21, met with a
delegation of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) headed by Mr.
Waheed Odusile, the National President of the organization.
In their discussion, the NUJ asked for legislative support to ensure the robust engagement of journalists in the Nigerian project. The Senate President in his response, reassured the NUJ that the 8th Senate will continue to do everything possible to ensure that the freedom of the press as guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws of Nigeria continue to be upheld. "Journalists and the news media played a vital role in securing the 'Change' that we clamoured for during elections, and their work is crucial to ensuring accountable and transparent governance." Saraki added.

fatal acident on Benin-Okada Expressway
A white commercial bus was
involved in an accident along the Benin Okada expressway and went up in
flames. The driver of the vehicle died instantly and was burnt
beyond recognition. Only two of the passengers (a mother and her baby)
survived the accident but were badly burnt.
Eye witnesses at the scene said they heard cries of some of the passengers trapped but could
not help them due to the heat of the fire.

President Muhammadu Buhari said Monday in Abuja that his administration was taking urgent and appropriate actions to restore order, due process and probity to the procurement processes of the nation's Armed Forces. Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday unveiled plans to transform Ebute-Meta into a tourist haven by establishing a recreation park on the stretch of land overlooking the lagoon, adjacent to the Adekunle axis of the Third Mainland Bridge. The Governor, who said this during the commissioning of Ipaja-Ayobo and Ikotun-Ejigbo Roads as well as an inspection tour of on-going projects across the State, lamented the state of the piece of land which he described as an eye sore from the bridge.
He, therefore, gave the auto mechanics under the bridge seven
days ultimatum to vacate the site and remove all abandoned vehicles for the
development project to commence in earnest.

Teenager who raped and killed his maths teacher found guilty
A teenager who raped and killed his maths teacher while at school faces
life in prison after being convicted. A Massachusetts jury on Tuesday
found him guilty of raping and murdering his 24 year old teacher,
Colleen Ritzer, at his suburban high school in 2013, after about nine
hours of deliberations.
The teenager’s defence lawyers claimed he was in the midst of a psychotic episode when he stabbed her 16 times in the neck in the women's bathroom.
Prosecutors said the schoolboy, who was 14 at the time, used a box cutter to brutally stab the 24-year-old, before using a recycling bin to take her body into the woods.
National Human Rights Commission to investigate the Army/Shiite clash
The clash, which took place during the weekend, took the lives of seven people and injured 10 others.
A statement by the commission, said the panel was set up by the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe, following a petition lodged against the Muslim sect by the Nigerian Army and some concerned citizens.
