University of Uyo Girls hostel on fire

A girls hostel at the University of Uyo caught fire this afternoon. It started from a room and spread to two other rooms. Thankfully the fire was contained by man-o-war and fire service before it spread to more rooms. And more thankful is that no life was lost. The cause of the sudden fire is yet to be known. A 30 year old Nigerian defender, David Faramola Oniya who plays for a Malaysian based club, T-Team died today June 13th on the field during a Friendly match between his club and another club.

Malaysian media reports that David, who recently signed with his club, slumped three minutes into the match in Kota Bharu, a Malaysian city. He was rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo recently visited his grand mother-in law, Chief Mrs H.I.D Awolowo, the wife of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Vice President Osinbajo is married to Dolapo Osinbajo who is the grand daughter of Chief H.I.D Awolowo. In 2011, 43-year old Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus Jr signed a three-year deal to be the face of Blast, a fruit-flavoured drink that was part of Pabst's Colt 45 malt beer range.

Under the terms of the agreement he was paid around $250,000 and further instalments of $20,000 for every tenth mention of the brand on social media, at concerts or during TV appearances.

But he believed his contract also entitles him to a portion of the sale price should Pabst sell the business before January 2016, as well as royalties on each case of Blast that was sold.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to president Buhari, Shehu Garba released a statement yesterday describing as false, reports being circulated online that the reason Nigeria's new president hasn't relocated to Aso Villa was because he was advised by a Senegalese spiritualist not to do so for now. In the statement, Shehu said the report was embarrassing to say the least. He said the president is a Muslim who believes his fate belongs to God.

"The so-called spiritual cleansing of the Aso Rock Villa by Senegalese marabouts before President Buhari moves into the villa is the figment of the imagination of rumour mongers." He said

Kojo, 56, on May 21st married 35 year old ex-US marine expert, Isidora Adewunmi, who is the daughter of Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, the Akarigbo of Remo Land, Ogun state. Speakership: Court declines to disqualify Gbajabiamila over US indictment

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined the request by a group called the Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative to disqualify APC House of Reps Speakership candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila over an alleged US indictment for unethical practices while he was practicing in the US as a lawyer many years ago.

Looks like the crisis rocking the newly elected members of the National Assembly has deepened as the complex of the Assembly has been shut from staff, house members and press ahead of the election for the House leaders today June 9th.

Suicidal woman drives her Porsche the wrong way onto the highway to kill herself but survives

67-year-old wife and mother, Patty Ann Cressaty said she no longer wanted to live so she got behind the wheel of her 2009 Porsche, got on the highway and headed northbound, according to Atlanta police. But Cressaty was on the southbound side of the highway, 15 miles from her home.

Other drivers called 911 to report the wrong-way driver Sunday morning around 11 a.m., but before officers could stop her, there was a fiery, three-vehicle crash.

National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has noted how he and other party officials were ridiculed and derided when they conceived the idea of displacing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from power two years ago. According to BBC, the Nigerian Army's spokesperson Colonel Sani Usman says the Nigerian military's command center has now been relocated to Borno state as directed by President Buhari in his inaugural speech.

"The team has already commenced work in earnest," Col Usman said in a statement released today. The statement also added that all senior military officers will relocate to the north east., the bedrock of Boko Haram crisis.

Oscar Pistorius to be released from jail - after serving just 10 months

The South African paralympian who shot his girlfriend at his home on Valentine's day February 14th 2013 will be released from Kgosi Mampuru prison in two months time, after serving 10 months in prison, it has been revealed. After he leaves prison around August, he will be under house arrest.

However, Oscar's murder acquittal is set to be appealed. Prosecutors have until August 17th to appeal a judge's decision and take Oscar back to court.

PR Guru, Alima Attah dies of cancer

PR Guru, educationist, MD of Sesema PR and host of TalkBiz on Smooth 98.1fm, Alima Atta has died. Alima, recently named one of Nigeria’s ‎100 most influential women died on Saturday June 6th after a battle with cancer.

Alima Atta studied French and Marketing and had a successful career in Public Relations and Marketing for over 20 years and worked at MMD Marketing Communications and Anderson Soames in the UK before establishing her own PR agency in 2002.

She was an inspiring woman who worked hard to get to the top. May her soul rest in peace, amen

Barber offers 'old man' haircuts for misbehaving kids

Have a kid who is acting out and out of control? Three days a week, a Snellville barbershop in Georgia, offers a free haircut called the "Benjamin Button Special," that'll make your misbehaving child resemble a senior citizen.

A picture of the cut was posted to Instagram by Russell Fredrick, who owns A-1 Kutz in Snellville and goes by the name Master Barber Rusty Fred on the social site.

The Imo state Police command have arrested a 2-man child trafficking syndicate in the state who specialize in stealing children and selling them to prospective buyers. The men identified as 22 year old Kelechi Nwogu and 22 year old Ebuka Ibe were paraded at the Imo state Police command by the state police Commissioner, Mr Austin Evbakhavbokum yesterday June 7th.

According to Punch, the suspects were arrested after a distress call was made to the police following the kidnapping of two siblings, 4 year old Chukwuma Ezeribe and 3 year old Chigozie Ezeribe (both pictured above) while they were returning from school at Amazu Amato in the Orsu Local Government Area.

A New York man who suspected that a Chili's restaurant waiter had spit into his drink got the law involved and investigators were able to determine who spit into the drink using DNA analysis, according to court documents. The incident took place last July, when Ken Yerdon and his wife, Julie Aluzzo Yerdon, went to dinner at a Chili's restaurant on Route 31 in Clay, New York, according to court documents from a lawsuit filed Tuesday. The couple complained to their server, Gregory Lamica, then 24, that their food was under-cooked and that they hadn't been served chips, Yerdon said.
