Ricardo Medina Jr., best known for starring as the Red Ranger in the Power Ranger series, was arrested and charged with the murder of his roommate, Joshua Sutter, on Saturday.
Medina, 37, dialed 911 himself and asked the police to come immediately after he allegedly stabbed his roommate in the abdomen with a sword.
As the ambulance showed up to take Sutter to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Medina was arrested and taken to Palmdale Police Station in California.
The police have reported that Medina has been very cooperative; admitting that the two had an argument, Medina walked away, Sutter chased after him and then Medina “lashed out” with the sword and speared him in the abdomen.
For those of you who don’t recognize the man, Medina played the Red Ranger in the 2002 hit TV show Power Rangers Wild Force and then starred as Deker in the 2011 follow-up series, Power Rangers Samurai. He also had brief cameos in ER and CSI but that’s about the extent of his acting career, and as for his singing career… well, that wasn’t exactly taking off either.
Medina’s former acting agent, Gar Lester, is stunned by the incident.
“He is a great friend and a great client,” Lester told ABC7. “It’s something I can’t even conceive. I don’t see that in him. He was a very helpful guy and great with his dog. It’s such a shock.”
According to Medina’s neighbour, Justin Adamson, the former Power Rangers star had only moved into the place a couple of months ago and was quite reserved.
“We brought him some bread and just tried to interact a little bit with him, but he was more of the type of guy that didn’t really want to communicate,” said Adamson.
I’ll bet Adamson is glad of that fact now that he knows Medina has a habit of stabbing close acquaintances in the stomach with samurai swords!
