Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has been ruled out
of action for the next seven to eight months due to an injury sustained
in a La Liga match against Las Palmas.
The Spanich club announced that Messi would miss 7-8 weeks of action due to a knee injury he sustained after clashing with goalkeeper Javi Varas inside the 18-yard box after just three minutes into Barca’s 2-1 victory over the newly promoted team.
The Argentine suffered a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his left knee
Messi attempted to continue but failed to shrug off the knock, with Barca coach Luis Enrique replacing him with Munir seven minutes later.
At the moment of contact the Barça player’s left knee collided with the opposition defender Pedro Bigas.
Messi led Barcelona to a second treble in six years last season. He will most likely be replaced by Munir for the duration of his injury.
