Man Who Bought 14 Brides From Vietnam Due To His Disabled Legs Gets Arrested
Recently, police arrested a Chinese man from Anhui Province for buying a Vietnamese woman to serve as his “bride”, then selling 13 others to be wives for other men. Ten of the women have been rescued by police, Ahscb.com reported.
It all began in 2001, when the Chinese man, who has been identified as Zhang, was upset about being unable to get a wife due to his disabled legs. One of his friends, who came from the Yunnan Province, said there are a lot of Vietnamese women who are waiting to be bought and serve as brides. Zhang then went to Yunnan and bought a woman as his wife.
Since then, his friends and relatives constantly asked him about getting a Vietnamese wife just like him, so he began to buy Vietnamese women from Yunnan for 60,000 RMB each (around 9,000 US dollars) to re-sell them to other men.
Zhang’s case was finally discovered by local police. Officials sent 140 police officers to investigate the case and arrested 24 related suspects. Ten victims were rescued, among which, four minors were sent back to their home country, and six stayed with the family that bought them voluntarily.
The other three women have fled from the buyer’s home. All of the 21 suspects, including Zhang, are waiting to be prosecuted, according to Ahscb.com.
