Suspected Boko Haram gunmen on horseback shot dead nearly 80 people in separate attacks on three villages in Nigeria’s restive northeast at the weekend, a vigilante and residents said Monday.
Vigilante Babakura Kolo said 68 people were killed in the attack on Baanu village in Borno state late on Friday while residents said another 11 people were shot dead in two other villages on Saturday and Sunday.
“Reports reached us of an attack on Baanu village late Friday where Boko Haram gunmen riding on horses opened fire on the village. Sixty-eight people were killed in the attack,” Kolo told AFP.
He said the gunmen stormed Baanu around 8.30 pm (1930 GMT), shooting sporadically.
Baanu resident Aisami Ari who fled the attack to state capital Maiduguri on Saturday, also confirmed the attack and the death toll.

At least 90 people mainly police were wounded in fierce clashes outside the Ukrainian parliament on Monday as lawmakers gave initial backing to deeply controversial reforms granting more autonomy to pro-Russian separatists.
A loud blast was heard outside the parliament building in Kiev and vast clouds of black smoke billowed into the air as demonstrators fired off what security forces said were live grenades shortly after MPs backed the first reading of the constitutional amendments.
It was the worst unrest in the capital since a sometimes bloody popular uprising ousted Kremlin-backed Viktor Yanukovych early last year, an event that set in train the separatist insurgency in Ukraine’s eastern industrial heartland.

The Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) filed a lawsuit against the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) recently, accusing it of colluding with public officers to undermine their professional practice.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has said that the introduction of Treasury Single Account, TSA, will boost revenue collection against leakages and ensure timely disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of the Federation Accounts among others.
The Accountant General of the Federal, Ahmed Idris, made the disclosure during separate courtesy visits to his office by managements of United Bank for Africa, UBA, Access Bank and Zenith Banks in his office.
He said the TSA is part of the reforms of the government to institutionalize a more effective and transparent management of public finances in the country.

Nigerian Ambassador to the US, Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye has died. He died of an undisclosed ailment at a hospital in the US yesterday August 27th. He was planning to hand over to a new ambassador when he suddenly died yesterday. He was 68 years old.

A historian by training, Mr Adefuye hailed from Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state. He studied at the University of Ibadan where he earned his first degree in 1969 as well as a PhD in history in 1973. May his soul rest in peace. Amen

Thai woman sentensed to death after being found guilty of trafficking cocaine in her private parts and anus


30- year-old Chonmanee Laphathanawat from Thai province of Rayong was yesterday August 27th sentenced to death by a High Court after finding her guilty of trafficking in 689.10gm of cocaine in 70 capsules hidden in her anus and her private parts. 
Laphathanawat, who was detained at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas in February 2013, looked calm but dejected when Judicial Commissioner Nordin Hassan pronounced the verdict. She was charged with committing the offence from about 12.50am on Feb 13 to Feb 16, 2013 at the Penang General Hospital.

70 decomposed bodies of migrants found in a meat truck in Austria


In another indication of the worsening migrant crisis in Europe, an abandoned meat truck full of 70 bodies of migrants was found on the side of a highway in eastern Austria on Thursday morning Aug. 27. The truck was found on a motorway near the borders with Slovakia and Hungary by an Austrian patrol with fluids from the decomposing bodies seeping from its back.
