Sports betting has a long history in Nigeria. However, winning jackpots of over N1 million are strange here.
But history was made last week as a Computer Engineering professor from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, won the humongous amount of N58, 945, 553 with just a N800 total bet on 1960BET.

Godwin Ighalo revealed that he has been placing bets for over 25 years but he always believed that one day, ‘luck would shine on me’.
Mr. Ighalo, who was accompanied by two relatives, was at the Lagos headquarters on Wednesday to receive his cheque.
The Computer Science teacher also revealed the secret even though this was the first time that he has won anything.
Mr. Ighalo said his strong interests in probability, relationships and special intelligence might have helped him win.
“Since my childhood days, I used to have strong interests in probability, relationships and special intelligence. All these with adequate sports betting research I conducted over the years, helped in making it possible.”
Dotun Ajegbile, the managing director of 1960BET, said his company is sure that this precedent and prompt payment of winnings will convince players they will be paid whatever they win, whenever they win.
This amount is undoubtedly the biggest payout in the annals of sports betting in Nigeria and Africa and with the most popular league in Nigeria, the EPL, just four weeks old, more punters will be excited by this news.
