Court convicts motorist for offering bribe to FRSC official

BENIN- A mobile court sitting in Benin Wednesday convicted a motorist, Ayo Okundaye for attempting to offer a bribe of N500 to Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official .
Trial Magistrate, Mr. Friday Igbinosa who found Okundaye guilty of a three-count charge of driving without number plate, forged driver’s license and attempt to bribe FRSC official on duty, ordered him to pay N35,000 for the offenses.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, however, alleged that the money was not a bribe but a gratification.

Flogging of jailed Saudi blogger who nearly died from his first round of lashes for insulting Islam will resume soon

The Saudi government is planning to resume the flogging of a blogger who they said insulted Islam. The blogger, Raif Badawi nearly died when he was flogged the last time. Raif, who is in prison, was sentenced to 1,000 lashes & 10 years in prison for insulting Islam in a post he shared on social media.

His wife, Ensaf Haidar, who lives in Canada, told reporters yesterday that the Saudi authority was planning to resume the flogging soon at the prison where he is being held. She said Raif is in 'a poor condition', and was suffering from high blood pressure and was mentally very stressed.

Saudi actor arrested in a mall by religious police for taking photos with women

Abdul Aziz Kassar was on Friday evening, October 23, arrested by members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in a shopping mall in the capital Riyadh for mixing with unrelated women.
 
The Saudi actor who lives in Kuwait said that he had not expected the rousing welcome that led to his arrest by the religious police as he was being mobbed by several women who were taking pictures and selfies with him.

Policeman allegedly shoots and kills mother of Nigerian tennis star, Angel Macleod


According to reports, the mother of 14-year old tennis prodigy, Angel MacLeod was shot dead by a MOPOL officer after an altercation at a Lagos hotel yesterday. According to Vanguard, the officer who was guarding the hotel hit the deceased during an altercation and she retaliated, hitting him with an object. Infuriated at her response, the officer fired a shot from his gun which resulted in the death of MacLeod's mother. It was learnt that the 14-year old is in shock, as her mother was her primary dependant. MacLeod is the leading junior tennis player in her category winning every trophy on offer.

80yr old woman arrested by by Edo Police for peddling arms


A woman said to be about 80 years old named Madam Comfort Izeomwen was arrested by the Edo State Police Command along with her accomplice, a 48 year old woman named Stella Omobude, who was caught with 32 live cartridges.

Edo State Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike, who paraded the suspects (above), said the women were arrested after police raided Evbueren village, along Benin/Auchi road, where the women lived after they got an anonymous tip about their operation...

Dead body of a newborn baby found dumped outside a church


The dead body of a newborn baby was found dumped outside St John’s Apostolic Faith Mission, Mamelodi East, SA, on Tuesday, October 13. The body was discovered by a passerby, who called the cops who are currently investigating the case. Police spokesman Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe says anyone with information about the incident should come forward and speak with officers at Mamelodi East police station.

NDLEA rehabilitated 210 drug addicts in the last 20 months in Jigawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has disclosed that it rehabilitated 210 drug addicts in Jigawa over the last 20 months.
The NDLEA Principal Staff Officer, Drug Demand Reduction Unit of Jigawa Command, Mr Garba Abubakar, told newsmen on Monday in Dutse.
According to him, 138 of the addicts including five females were rehabilitated in 2014 and 72 others including two females were rehabilitated between January and October 2015.
“The agency has counseled parents of the rehabilitated victims not to stigmatise them, so as not to push them back to drug abuse,” the NDLEA official said, stressing that it was important for families, friends and communities to show love and care.

A pastor, one Obi William and his wife, Ebere, a thrift collector, were Thursday, killed by gunmen at the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi Metropolis, on their way back from church.
The deceased who reports say hailed from Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and his wife, an indigene of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, reportedly had four children.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bauchi command, Haruna Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen attacked the couple at Bayan Gari area in the state capital at about 7:45 pm on the said day.

The Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges on Monday absolved Sokoto Ministerial nominee, Aisha Abubakar of allegation of incompetence raised against her and presented at plenary last Thursday by Senator Ibrahim Gobir.
The Committee which began hearing today observed that the Petition was addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and not the President of the Senate as is the guiding rule of the Senate that has powers of investigation.

Six persons were on Saturday, October 10, seriously injured in a fatal accident that occurred at the Ile-Ise Awo junction along Lagos-Abeokuta road few kilometres to Neuro Psychatric hospital in Abeokuta.

Former Kebbi Governor Dakingari invited by EFCC over allegations of N3.8billion money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC this morning invited former Kebbi state governor, Usman Dakingari over allegations of laundering N3.8 billion while he served as governor of the state between 2007- 2015. He arrived the EFCC headquarters at about 10am today and is currently being drilled by officers of the anti-graft agency.

The former governor's wife, Zainab who is the daughter of former president Musa Yar'Adua, was invited by the EFCC in July following accusations of laundering N2 billion for her husband.

 A Chicago man has been charged with child endangerment after his three-year-old son was shot and killed by his six-year-old brother while the two were playing "cops and robbers".
