BENIN- A mobile court sitting in Benin Wednesday convicted a motorist, Ayo Okundaye for attempting to offer a bribe of N500 to Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official .
Trial Magistrate, Mr. Friday Igbinosa who found Okundaye guilty of a three-count charge of driving without number plate, forged driver’s license and attempt to bribe FRSC official on duty, ordered him to pay N35,000 for the offenses.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, however, alleged that the money was not a bribe but a gratification.

Sentencing the convict, Igbinosa, said act of corruption was a serious offence the present administration frowns at, saying that “even the commission has zero tolerance for such act.’’
“I however, commend you for admitting guilt but must warn you to desist from the act and ensure you go through appropriate quarters to acquire your vehicle particulars and driver’s license in the future”, he said.
He however ordered the forfeiture of the faked driver’s license to the Federal Government.
Igbinosa also commended the FRSC official for resisting the temptation to receive bribe and urged other marshals to emulate his deeds.
No fewer than people were convicted by the court for various traffic violation ranging from speed limit, seatbelt, forged vehicle and driver’s document, overloading among others.
The court also ordered the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ekiodolor, SP Patrick Okosun to produce in court on Nov. 6, the fleeing Owan Youth development chairman to answer to the allegation of obstruction of duty.
The fleeing youth chairman was said to have allegedly assaulted FRSC marshal on duty before the intervention of officers from the Ekiodolor police station.
The court also ordered the DPO to tow the impounded vehicle to the court premises on the said adjourned date
