Pres. Buhari departs for Kenya

President Buhari has departed Nigeria for Kenya to attend the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI)starting from August 27th -28th.

The summit, co-organised by the Government of Japan, the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa, the United Nations Development programme, the African Union and the World Bank, will focus on promoting structural economic transformation through diversification and industrialisation; promoting resilient health system for quality life and promoting social stability for shared prosperity. France’s highest administrative court has ruled that the ban on muslim female swimwear 'burkini' being enforced on the country’s beaches are illegal and a violation of fundamental liberties. More than 30 French towns have banned burkinis, which cover the whole body except for the face, hands and feet. Officials say the ban on the burkini was a response to growing terror concerns.
Human rights activists however argued that such measures are illegal, and that pushes to outlaw the garment are Islamophobic. The ruling of the State Council suspends the ban in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, and this could now affect cities around the country that have prohibited the full-length swimsuit.

The Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello was reportedly attacked by some aggrieved residents of the state today August 26th. According to multiple sources, the governor who had gone to the Lokoja Central Mosque to observe his Juma'at prayer, was attacked by some aggrieved residents who threw stones, rotten food and fruits at his convoy as it departed the mosque.

The residents say they are not happy with the manner in which the state governor is managing the affairs of the state. They say they are groaning in hardship and hunger as most of the civil servants had not been paid their salaries

Singer GT the Guitarman and wife welcome their first child

Nigerian singer GT the Guitarman and his wife Annie have welcomed their first child. The baby born at about 9am yesterday, August 25th has been named Aramide. The couple got engaged on January 12th this year. Their traditional wedding took place on April 24th at Ozubulu, Anambra State.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday disclosed that the removal of oil subsidy has saved the Federal government N1.4 trillion. He said this while speaking at the the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting in Kano state.

84 undergraduates of the Lagos state University LASU have been sanctioned for improper dressing.

A letter from the school's dean of Student Affairs DSA, shows that eight of those that have been sanctioned are final year students, 43 are in 100level, 20 in 200level and three in 300level.

24 of the sanctioned students are in faculty of Management Science, 18 from faculty of sciences, faculty of Education and Social Sciences were recorded as 11 students each and the faculty of communication has four students.

Chinakwe Joachim Iroko who was arrested on August 13th and arraigned before a Sango Magistrate court for naming his dog Buhari has fulfilled his bail condition and has been released from Prison custody. The court in its ruling on August 22nd granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties.

Three people from same family were slashed to death in a brutal attack at Kampung Bertam Hilir, Malaysia in the early hours of Thursday, August 25th.

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has suspended with immediate effect the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development in the state, Samuel Okoronkwo.
