Niger Hints That Nigerian Soldiers Are Cowards

Defence ministry of Niger Republic dropped an unfavourable comment in relation to the Nigerian soldiers.

Niger military have recently joined the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, who have also started carrying out dire raids in their country. Since then
It should be recalled that Niger’s parliament earlier this week unanimously voted for sending their soldiers to be part of Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
However, the country’s officials apparently mocked the neigbour’s soldiers saying that their soldiers would not run away like Nigerians.
According to Nigerian Watch, Niger Republic defence ministry spokesman assured their colleagues:
“Our soldiers are not like Nigerians. They don’t run.”
The comment comes amid reports that Nigerian commanders and soldiers are sometimes abandoning their posts in fear of Boko Haram.
The series of such incidents started with the scandalous Mubi attack when hundreds of Nigerian soldiers escaped to Cameroon as soon as the insurgents approached Mubi.
Nigeria’s National security adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), accused some people within the military of cowardice.
“Unfortunately, we have a lot of cowards. We have people who use every excuse in this world not to fight.”
Meanwhile some soldiers lament over the inadequate weaponry saying that the Nigerian army is equipped worse than Boko Haram militants. Scores of soldiers were end of 2014 sentenced to death over mutiny as they refused to join anti Boko Haram operations.
Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), among others, expressed his strong discontent with the court martial decision. According to Falana, sending army to battle with Boko Haram without providing the proper equipment is like asking them to go and commit suicide.
